Client Brief
The client approached us seeking a dedicated room to serve as a garden gym. They wanted a compact yet functional fitness space to house their Peloton bike, tredmill and some free weights. Naturally, they wanted a motivating environment for daily workouts away from the main house.
Garden Gym Solution
We designed a 3.5m x 2.4m garden room built using a traditional timber frame construction with insulation.
Although there was an existing paved patio area, we couldn’t be sure of structure underneath and if it was stable enough. To get round this, we went ahead with stainless steel ground screw pile foundations to give a full guarantee of a solid, eco-friendly base without the need for excavation or concrete.
The 2.1m aluminium sliding doors create a lovely entrance that lets maximum light in and provides a good connection to the garden during workouts. A 600mm floor-to-ceiling window on the right hand side adds further natural light and views of the vegetable planters.
The front and right hand elevations are finished in warm Thermowood redwood cladding. The rear and left side elevations (not visible from the garden) are finished in practical metal sheet cladding, striking the right balance between aesthetics and value. All roof trims including the fascia, soffit, rear gutter and downspout are finished in black to complement the overall look.
