Location: Urmston, Greater Manchester
Project Timeline: 3 weeks
Purpose: Garden office with separate storage room
Size: 3.3m x 5.3m
Client Brief
The client approached us needing to replace an existing, dilapidated shed with a more functional space for their busy and expanding family life.
They wanted a dedicated garden room to serve as a home office whilst also incorporating separate storage space to keep garden equipment and family items organised and out of sight.

Our Solution
Due to the wedge-shape of the garden, we designed a bespoke garden office measuring 3.3m x 5.3m at its widest point to make the most of the available garden space.
The unusual shape was carefully planned to maximise the footprint – and it really did this. From the outside, it doesn’t look like a big shape, but this garden room is like a little tardis inside.

Built using our preferred SIP panel construction with 122mm thick floor and roof panels and 100mm thick walls, the structure delivers exceptional insulation performance for year-round comfort. A Firestone EPDM roof provides reliable, long-lasting weather protection.
The front elevation features 2.3m French doors with side panels alongside some lovely Thermowood Radiata pine cladding to create an attractive entrance that floods the office with natural light. The side and rear elevations are finished with practical metal sheet cladding. The separate storage area can be accessed via its own external door with frosted glass.

We installed mains electricity and a wired CAT6 internet connection to provide reliable connectivity. The internal electrical package includes four double sockets, a central ceiling light, a 1.5kW wall-mounted panel heater and two external lights.
Our local garden room Manchester team completed the project within three weeks.

Project Outcome
The completed garden room delivers significantly better use of space compared to the previous shed, providing both a professional office environment and practical storage for the growing family.
The clients were delighted with the final result and even commented that they didn’t expect it to be as much as a “finished room” as it is – as we say, our garden room builds are built to the same spec as a house extension, just detached from the house.

The design makes clever use of the available garden area whilst the separate storage room keeps clutter out of sight. The combination of attractive Thermowood cladding at the front and practical metal cladding on the less visible elevations balances aesthetics with cost-effectiveness – a great way to do it.
